Manchester United staged an amazing comeback against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, August 26, 2023, after being two goals down in under four minutes and then winning the match by 3-2. The match was played at Old Trafford and was part of the third game week of the Premier League season.
The visitors stunned the hosts by scoring two quick goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and Willy Boly in the second and fourth minute, respectively. Awoniyi ran from his own half after a United corner and beat André Onana with a low shot, while Boly headed in a free-kick from Morgan Gibbs-White.
United looked shell-shocked but gradually regained their composure and pulled one back in the 17th minute through Christian Eriksen, who pounced on a rebound after Matt Turner failed to hold Bruno Fernandes’s long-range effort. The second half saw United increase their intensity and pressure on Forest’s defense. They equalized in the 52nd minute when Casemiro scored from a clever free-kick routine involving Fernandes and Eriksen.
Forest’s woes were compounded when their captain, Joe Worrall, was sent off in the 67th minute for bringing down Fernandes, who was through on goal. The United skipper then converted the resulting penalty in the 76th minute to complete the turnaround and secure all three points for his team.
The win was United’s first of the season after a draw and a loss in their previous two games. It also extended their unbeaten run at home to 28 matches in the league. Forest, on the other hand, suffered their second defeat of the campaign and remained in the bottom half of the table.
Manchester United created an amazing record by winning its 13th Premier League match when they got two goals down, which is the most by any team in Premier League history. It is one of the proudest records to have, but it also concerns the defense of Manchester United, which has been one of the most talking points.
