In an exciting turn of events at the National Games in Goa, Odisha and Haryana secured their spots in the semifinals of Women’s Football even before their last group matches. Both teams earned their second consecutive wins in Group B on Monday, accumulating six points each. The clash between Odisha and Haryana on Wednesday will determine the group’s winner, while Chandigarh and Goa have yet to earn a point.
In the opening match of the day, Haryana defeated Chandigarh with a lone goal scored by Neha in the 49th minute, following a goalless first half.
In the other encounter, Odisha demonstrated their dominance by defeating the hosts, Goa, 4-0. Odisha established a comfortable lead with two goals in the first half and added two more in the second half. The scorers for Odisha included Piyari Xaxa, S Lynda Kom, Subhadra Sahoo, and Sumitra Hembrem.
In Men’s Football, Goa faced an unexpected setback as they lost to Services in Group A. After a closely contested match, Bikash Thapa scored the only goal of the game in the 86th minute.
The second match in Group A featured a goalless draw between Santosh Trophy champions Karnataka and Punjab.
In beach soccer, Kerala and Goa secured their spots in the semifinals with perfect records in the group stage. Kerala won their third consecutive match, defeating Delhi 6-0, with Musheer TKB (2), Suhail, Roy R, Muhammed Unais, and Ali Akbar AP finding the net.
Lakshadweep also advanced from Group A, winning 12-2 against Jharkhand, with Muhammed Haseeb scoring six goals. Mohsin (2), Mirsad, Mohammed Ramees, Aboohuraira, and Mohammed Tahir contributed to the scoreline, while Subhas Barua and Akash Chandra Mahato scored for Jharkhand.
In Group B, Goa maintained a clean sheet by defeating Uttarakhand 18-5. Satish Naik (5), Pedro Antonio Gonsalves (4), and Richard Cardoz (3) were the leading scorers for Goa, while Nahal Parab (2), Kashinath Subhash Rathod (2), Latish Kunkolkar, and Carl Joshua Dsouza added to the tally. Uttarakhand’s goals came from Sarshan (3), Mary Jesin Shagin, and Chandan Karwa.
Punjab secured their place in the semifinals by beating Odisha 3-1, with Karandeep Singh Manota scoring all three goals for Punjab, and Subash Pujari netting for Odisha.
In the upcoming semifinals, Kerala will face Punjab, while Goa will play against Lakshadweep.
