Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly quashed rumors of an impending move for Galatasaray’s Danish defender Victor Nelsson in the upcoming January transfer window. Football Insider sources have disclosed that the North London club has no interest in signing the player, despite previous widespread speculations linking them to the Denmark international.
Some reports had even suggested that Spurs were considering triggering Nelsson’s £26 million release clause to secure his services. The 23-year-old defender played a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s Super Lig title triumph during the 2022-23 season, and he has continued to be an important figure for the Istanbul-based club this season, making 13 appearances in various competitions, including the UEFA Champions League.
Nelson’s current contract with Galatasaray runs until June 2026, having joined the club from FC Copenhagen in 2021. With 93 total appearances for the Turkish side, he has contributed two goals and one assist.
Despite the emergence of a formidable center-back partnership between Cristian Romero and summer signing Micky van de Ven under new manager Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham has been actively exploring options to bolster their defensive line. Football Insider had previously reported that Postecoglou had made the acquisition of a new center-back a top priority for the January transfer window.
Sources also indicated that Tottenham is closely monitoring Club America defender Sebastian Caceres, who has been impressing for Uruguay under Marcelo Bielsa. Despite their focus on strengthening the defense, Tottenham is enjoying an excellent Premier League campaign in the 2023-24 season, remaining undefeated in the league and sitting on 26 points ahead of their highly anticipated match against Chelsea on November 6th.
