Many clubs like Benfica earn their money by signing highly potential young players and later sell it to the big clubs for a huge amount of money, which made them one of the biggest clubs to have the most amount of bank balance in their account because they don’t use that balance to sign expensive players. Recently, for the last 5 years, the prices of players went sky high, and 100 million euros is quite normal to give to a highly skilled player who has not proven himself in the big five leagues in the world.
Neymar JR
Neymar is one of the world’s most expensive and talented players. He left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 for 222 million euros, the most expensive transfer in history. Since then, he has helped PSG win four Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups, and a Champions League final. He recently went to Al-Hilal for about 90 million euros.
Philippe Coutinho
Barcelona signed him in 2018 from Liverpool for 160 million euros, the second most expensive transfer in history at the time. Unfortunately, he could not adapt to the style of play of Barça and had many injuries. He was loaned to Bayern Munich in 2019, where he won the treble, but they did not buy him permanently. He has been transferred to Aston Villa for about 20 million euros.
Ousmane Dembele
Dembele arrived in Barcelona in 2017 from Borussia Dortmund for 135 million euros, plus 40 million in variables. He is a fast and skillful attacker but also very inconsistent and prone to injuries. When he’s fit, he can be one of the best in the world, but that doesn’t happen often. PSG signed him recently for about 50 million.
Antoine Griezmann
Griezmann is one of the best attackers in the world and was a winner in the World Cup with France in 2018. He played five seasons at Atlético Madrid, where he was an idol and top scorer. In 2019, he went to Barcelona for 120 million euros but did not perform as expected. In 2021, he returned to Atlético on loan, with an obligatory purchase option of 40 million euros. Atletico Madrid brought him back for about 20 million euros.
Moises Caicedo
Caicedo is a young midfielder who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion in England. He was signed in January 2021 for 5 million euros from Independiente del Valle of Ecuador. He is a versatile player who can be a defensive or attacking midfielder. Amazingly, Chelsea signed him in 2023/2024 for a record-breaking fee of 115 million, but he had one of the worst debuts for Chelsea FC against West Ham United, where he gave one Penalty.
Gareth Bale
Bale used to be one of the world’s fastest and most skilled players. He played seven seasons at Real Madrid, winning four Champions Leagues, two Spanish Championships, and two Club World Cups. He is also the top scorer in the history of the Wales national team. In 2020, he was loaned to Tottenham Hotspur, his former club, where he scored 16 goals in 34 games. He retired in January 2023.
Eden Hazard
He is one of the world’s most creative and dribbling players. He was voted twice the best player in the Premier League, playing for Chelsea. In 2019, he went to Real Madrid for 100 million euros but suffered many injuries and a lack of physical form. He has not been able to show his best football at Real Madrid. He is without a club right now, as Real Madrid decided not to extend his contract.
Antony Santos
Antony is a young Brazilian attacker who plays for Manchester United. He was signed on August 30th for 95 million euros from Ajax. He is a fast, technical, and scoring player who can play on the sides or in the center of the attack. He scored 24 goals, gave 22 assists for Ajax, and was called up for the Brazilian national team.
Dusan Vlahovic
Vlahovic is a young Serbian attacker who plays for Juventus in Italy. He was signed in 2018 for 1.5 million euros from Partizan of Serbia, then Fiorentina signed him for about 3.20 million euros, and after he scored 49 goals and 8 assists for the club in 108 matches, Juventus signed him for about 81.60 million euros. He is a tall, strong, and finisher player who can be a center forward or a second striker.
Enzo Fernandez
Enzo is a young Argentine midfielder who plays for Chelsea FC and has been in the World Cup-winning team of Argentina in 2022. He was signed in January 2023 for 121 million euros from Benfica. He is intelligent, dynamic, and has a good vision of the game player, who can play as a defensive midfielder or a central midfielder.
