Why Did Moises Caicedo choose Chelsea over Liverpool? He revealed After Completing a £115m Transfer

Playing for Chelsea Football Club has been Moises Caicedo's dream since a young age as the star boy wanted to follow in Kante's footsteps.

The saga of Moises Caicedo is over after he completed the record-breaking deal of £115m transfer to Chelsea F.C. Brighton’s exciting young talent chose Chelsea over Liverpool, which is a big shock for Liverpool as they went overboard by launching the £110m which is the highest they ever bid for someone.

Caicedo always wanted to play for Chelsea F.C. as his idols Kante and Makelele were in the same club for several years. Kante also gifted him the signed t-shirt when he had his 18th birthday.

Makelele and Kante were an inspiration to me. They were so humble on the pitch. I think I can say we share similar qualities, but they were better. But now I am going to give everything for this club because they did so much for me,” said Caicedo in his first official interview since the transfer.

“When I was a kid, I supported Chelsea and used to watch the games. Now it is amazing to be here. It is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can’t wait to start with the guys, to give my best, and to write my own story,”

Caicedo started his career at Independiente del Valle, a club known for producing talented young players in Ecuador. He made his debut at the age of 17 and quickly established himself as a regular starter. He helped his team win the Copa Sudamericana in 2019, the second-most prestigious club competition in South America. He also became the first player born in the 21st century to score in the Copa Libertadores, the continent’s top club tournament.

Caicedo’s performances caught the attention of several European clubs, including Manchester United, Ajax, and Brighton. He eventually joined Brighton in February 2021 for a fee of around £4 million, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract. He made his Premier League debut in March 2021 and scored his first goal in May 2021 against West Ham.

Caicedo also impressed on the international stage, becoming the youngest player to score in Ecuador’s history when he netted against Uruguay in October 2020. He was part of the Ecuador squad that reached the quarter-finals of the Copa America 2021, where they lost to eventual champions Argentina.

After just one season at Brighton, Caicedo attracted interest from Chelsea and Liverpool, who both saw him as a potential replacement for their departed midfielders. Chelsea had lost Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Mateo Kovacic, while Liverpool had lost Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Fabinho.

Liverpool agreed a £111 million deal with Brighton to sign Caicedo, but the player rejected the move and opted for Chelsea instead. According to his agent, Caicedo had an agreement with Chelsea since June 2021 and wanted to honor it. He also preferred to work with Mauricio Pochettino, who had coached him briefly at Independiente del Valle before joining Tottenham in 2014.

Caicedo completed his medical on Monday and signed an eight-year deal with Chelsea, with an option for a further year. He will wear the number 8 shirt and is expected to make his debut against Arsenal on Saturday.

Caicedo has been praised for his versatility, vision, passing, dribbling, shooting, and defensive skills. He has been compared to Paul Pogba, Yaya Toure, and Frank Lampard. He has also been hailed for his maturity, humility, and professionalism.

Caicedo’s decision to join Chelsea over Liverpool has caused controversy among fans and pundits. Some have accused him of being greedy or disloyal, while others have defended him for following his dream or being honest. Whatever the case may be, Caicedo has shown that he is not afraid to make big choices and take risks in his career.
