Zinedine Zidane Set for Sensational Return to Management with Marseille

Zinedine Zidane has reportedly agreed to a sensational return to football management with Marseille, provided that the club is taken over by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF). The former Real Madrid boss, who left the Spanish giants in 2021 after winning three Champions League trophies and two La Liga titles, has been out of the spotlight for over a year. He was rumored to be in the running for the Manchester United job two seasons ago, but he rejected the offer and said he was not interested in working in England.

According to French media outlet Le Parisien, Zidane has reached a verbal agreement with PIF to take charge of Marseille if they buy the club from current owner Frank McCourt. PIF, which is also behind the takeover of Newcastle United in the Premier League, has been eyeing Marseille for months and is ready to launch a bid of around €400 million. However, McCourt has repeatedly stated that he is unwilling to sell the club and that he has a long-term project in place.

Zidane, who was born in Marseille and grew up supporting the club, is said to be keen on the challenge of reviving the fortunes of his boyhood team. He would also have a huge budget to work with, as PIF is expected to invest heavily in the squad and the infrastructure of the club. Zidane would also have the backing of French president Emmanuel Macron, who is a fan of the former France international and has expressed his wish to see him manage in Ligue 1.

Zidane’s potential arrival at Marseille would be a huge coup for the club and the league, as he is widely regarded as one of the best managers in the world.
