Dutch Expert Herman Kruis to Lead Indian Junior Hockey Teams for FIH World Cups

Hockey India has made a significant stride in bolstering its coaching staff as it announced the appointment of Herman Kruis, a seasoned coach from the Netherlands, to lead the Indian Men and Junior Women’s Hockey Teams. Kruis, with over two decades of coaching experience, brings a wealth of expertise to the table.

Kruis will take charge of the Indian Junior Men and Women’s Teams as they gear up for the crucial FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2023 in Malaysia and the FIH Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2023 in Santiago, later this year. His extensive coaching journey encompasses impressive achievements, including guiding Den Bosch ladies, a Netherlands-based club, to eight consecutive European Cup victories during his tenure as Head Coach.

His leadership prowess extends beyond club teams, as Kruis held the position of National Head Coach for the Netherlands Indoor Women’s Hockey Team from 2006 to 2008 and the Netherlands Outdoor team from 2008 to 2010. More recently, he served as the National Head Coach for both the Indoor and Outdoor teams of Belarus from 2016 to August 2023.

Hockey India’s President, Padma Shri Dr. Dilip Tirkey, expressed his excitement about Kruis joining the national program for the junior teams, believing that his experience will enhance India’s prospects in the FIH Junior Hockey World Cups. Shri Bhola Nath Singh, Secretary General of Hockey India, emphasized the decision to bring in Kruis to strengthen the coaching staff, highlighting the importance of his expertise in achieving favorable results in the prestigious tournaments.

Herman Kruis shared his enthusiasm about his new role, stating, “I am looking forward to this new role with Hockey India. There are some very talented players in the Indian Junior Men and Women’s hockey teams. The next four months leading up to the Junior World Cups are exciting and at the same time an important phase in the teams’ preparations. I look forward to working with them to achieve the desirable results.”

Kruis’s appointment adds a promising dimension to India’s junior hockey journey, setting the stage for an intense and transformative period of preparation ahead of the FIH Junior Hockey World Cups.
