After an impressive group stage performance, the Indian team were disappointed to only manage a 14th place finish in the FIH Mens Hockey World Cup 2023. They had put up a solid display of hockey throughout the tournament, but a 1-0 defeat to Belgium in the pre-quarterfinals left them unable to advance further. The Indian team will now look to regain their lost confidence by putting up an excellent show in upcoming FIH Hockey Pro League season 2022/2023. Led by star drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh, who is currently one of the three joint top-scorers with six goals to his name in this tournament, India will aim to prove that they are still one of the world’s best teams in the presence of some great teams and players from other nations. It promises to be a thrilling season for all hockey fans out there.

Although it is intimidating playing against giant teams like Australia and Germany, Indian Hockey Team’s vice-captain Harmanpreet believes that these challenging matches are essential for the team’s ongoing focus on the Asian Games. Taking the success of their previous matches in consideration, India’s chief coach Hardik Singh recently announced an ingenious plan to maintain the core values and attacking style of play that contributed to their reign as one of the top teams. He also promised to focus on keeping possession, so that India can solidify their defence even more effectively and bring further wins to Team India. Having achieved recent victory by winning the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023, the Germany Men’s Hockey National Team will be going into their next set of games full of confidence. Eight points from four games has them fifth in the FIH Men’s Hockey Pro League 2022/23, and Skipper Mats Grambusch believes the key to ongoing success is not becoming complacent. He emphasized that his squad need to remain focused on continual improvement in order to keep winning games and rising through the ranks. The upcoming game against hosts will surely be a tough one, but with fresh motivation and renewed energy, Germany are well poised to move forward in a positive direction.

Germany’s Hockey Captain Moritz Grambusch expressed that the team has learned a lot from the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 which consisted of some tight matches, and where they came out winners in the quarterfinal and final games through shootouts, and won their semi-final game in the last few seconds. Grambusch also noted that in order to better prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics against some very tough opponents such as Australia, India, Belgium, and Netherlands, Germany have to focus on having strong practices and honing their skills. With the aim of capturing victory at the world’s most renowned international sporting event, it appears Germany’s men’s hockey team will use every training session as an opportunity to upgrade their sportsmanship.

After their recent successes in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2022/2023, Germany’s Men’s Hockey team has set its sights on being as successful as possible instead of aspiring to be World Champions or No.1 team in the world. Although Germany lost to Belgium in the reverse fixtures, they rose to the occasion against Argentina and clinched a 3-2 win before winning the penalty shootout. Given their form throughout this tournament, it is clear that the German players have an identity of striving for more no matter how much success they achieve.
