At UFC 308, Ilia Topuria will be defending his featherweight title for the first time against the BMF title holder Max Holloway. UFC fighters prior to the fight started picking their favorite to win the bout, and former Alexander Volkanovski is no exception to that as “The Great” has his pick for the UFC 308 main event. The former UFC champion, who held the featherweight title for more than 5 years, has fought with Ilia Topuria’s upcoming opponent thrice and won every time, but in his first fight against “El Matador,” he got knocked out in round 2 despite getting lose the Spaniard, Volkanovski picked Max Holloway to win the upcoming bout.
Sharing his thoughts on how the fight could go and the reason for picking Max Holloway for UFC 308 at MainEvent YouTube. He said this
“He’s a heavy puncher, he does have good grappling, but I do think that Max’s takedown defense is going to be too much – if he does try to take him down, I don’t think he’ll have any success. I think he’ll be able to outwork him from the outside and [going] five rounds with Max Holloway isn’t easy – especially if you’re a pop and rocker looking for that power [shot]… Look, he might catch him, but I think it’s going to be a long and hard night for Topuria and that’s not me knocking the guy, it’s just I’ve fought Max three times, and I know how good the guy is.”

Ilia Topuria was quick to react to the former champion’s statements and revealed why “The Great” picked Max Holloway over him despite him finishing the champ in their first fight.
“It’s what he wants [to happen] because it’s much easier to do a rematch with a guy you have beaten three times than with the one who knocked you out in seven minutes, obviously, because he is a bit of a scoundrel.
