UFC middleweight Paulo Costa went on to win his fight at UFC 318 co-main event last week against Roman Kopylov. It was Eraser’s first victory since 2022, and when it came to the post-fight interview, he called out Khamzat Chimaev, which was obvious, seeing the beef between these two fighters. But instead of the call-out, what caught the MMA fans’ attention was an act related to the Brazilian when he was present at the UFC 318 pre-fight press conference.
During the press conference, the Brazilian started shaking and almost jumped out of his seat. The mysterious fidgeting concerned fans regarding the fighter’s health, and some thought he was on drugs. However, the Brazilian cleared the air and revealed that it was nothing to worry about, as he was pumped up for the fight. After getting the win, here is what he said.
First of all, the people said I was shaking. I was not sick or nothing. I didn’t use any powder or something like that. I was just very motivated, very focused, very locked in on this fight.”
Costa said at UFC 318’s post-fight press conference.
Now, former UFC title challenger or the “American Gangster” speculate that the mysterious shaking might be due to Khamzat Chimaev’s name.
You guys see the press conference?… He almost knocked a table over because he couldn’t sit still, and he kept getting fidgety… He was so worked up, I went and spoke to him and asked, ‘What’s going on?’ and he says, ‘Coach, I’m not locked in on this fight. I got a problem, coach, I have a problem, and I got to get it behind me. I’m working on it. I’m trying, coach.’ He’s shaking as he’s telling me.”
He said
And it had to do with something about Chimaev but he wouldn’t go any further than that. He said, ‘I have a problem with Chimaev. I need to see this guy. I need to find Chimaev.’ He starts shaking as he’s telling this… He never got rid of it [shaking]. He went out there and fought with it.
Chael Sonnen further said.
The “Eraser” with his dominant performance at UFC 318 got himself back in title contention, and if everything works out, fans could see a fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Paulo Costa in the future.
