After Dana White’s announcement, naming Tom Aspinall as the undisputed Heavyweight champion of the UFC in a press conference at UFC Baku, MMA experts and fans kept asking whom the new heavyweight champ will fight next, the British fighter answered that and confirmed that he has locked in a fight for his first heavyweight title defense. In a recent post shared by Championship Rounds, Tom Aspinall said this about his next fight.
“Meetings have been done and I now have a fight… We’ve got a date, we’ve got an opponent to work towards.”
The new heavyweight champion became the UFC interim champion after defeating Russian fighter Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295 and then defended it against Curtis Blaydes. In both fights, the Brit ended the bout in the first round. Though UFC and Jon Jones wasted crucial time of Tom Aspinall as it is confirmed now that the UFC did everything it can to make Jon Jones fight Tom Aspinall but the former champ avoided the then interim champ and decided to get retire from the UFC due to which the MMA promotion announced the Brit as the undisputed heavyweight champ.
Tom Aspinall, has big plans to solidify his legacy in the UFC and wants to fight the top 10 heavyweight fighters, recently he revealed what he is going to do next.
‘I’d like to do 4 [fights] in the next 12 months. If you look at the top ten, I have beaten 6 of them. My goal is to beat ten of the top ten. I wanna beat all ten.”
Aspinall said
Many fighters can give the Brit a hard time in the cage. Fighters like Ciryl Gane, a well-rounded striker, and possibly the next opponent of Tom Aspinall, can be seen sharing the cage with Tom next. Although UFC hasn’t made an official announcement yet, the first title defense is likely to be against Ciryl Gane.
