“Ilia can knock anybody out from 145 to 170” Dustin Poirier Big Claim On New Lightweight Champion

Ilia Topuria knocked out Charles Oliveira at UFC 317

The lightweight division of the UFC has a new ruler, and it’s Ilia Topuria, the former featherweight champion, who moved up in the weight class after relinquishing his 145lbs title to fight Charles Oliveira at UFC 317 and did what he told during the entire build-up of this fight. Ilia Topuria knocked Charles Oliveira out cold in the first round to get the second title. The KO impressed Dustin Poirier as well, and the former interim champion didn’t shy away from giving the new lightweight champion his credit. During the media day of UFC 318, the Diamond praised Ilia for his win and said this.

“It’s not that I didn’t think he could do it or it would happen, I was just surprised like everybody else. We’ve never seen Charles put out like that. We’ve seen Charles stopped but we’ve never seen him put out like that. Just the streak the guy’s on. I’m a big fan. Any time he’s fighting, I’m watching. I keep saying the same thing but he’s everything that he said he is so far. He’s still young, the sky’s the limit. He’s him.”

Dustin Poirier has his last UFC fight around the corner as the Diamond confirmed his retirement. The last fight is a trilogy one against Max Holloway in Louisiana at UFC 318. Unfortunately, the former interim lightweight champion never got his hands on the 155lbs title in his UFC career, but he has one last chance to retire as a champion, though not with a world title, but with the BMF title if he defeats Max Holloway in the main event at UFC 318.
