Former UFC Bantamweight champion Petr Yan had a unanimous decision win over Marcus McGhee at UFC Abu Dhabi. “No Mercy”, Marcus McGhee dominated to get his hands raised at the end of the fight and increased his win streak to 3. After winning three fights in a row, the Russian is back in the title contention and did show interest in fighting Merab Dvalishvili but when it was asked to the Russian whether he would fight Umar Nurmagomedov next the former champ took a jibe at the Dagestani fighter by saying that the latter has the privilege of having a cousin like, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

During a recent interview with Ushatayka, former champ said this.

“Well, Umar lost his last fight. He hasn’t had a single fight since. They have the option to wait and not train at all. It could be for a year, six months. I need to act, to work, to pave the way for myself with my labor. Neither my brothers nor my sisters have given me anything.”

Umar Nurmagomedov last fought in January 2025 against the reigning Bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili, who was defending his title for the first time after claiming it at Noche UFC. “The Machine” defeated Umar Nurmagomedov via unanimous decision to retain his title and gave Umar his first professional loss of his career. Since then, Merab Dvalishvili has fought Sean O’Malley and is now preparing to face Cory Sandhagen, whereas the Dagestani fighter is out of action.

Although UFC has announced Umar Nurmagomedov’s next fight against Mario Bautista, the date has not been finalized yet. Petr Yan, on the other hand, is waiting for his next opponent, and it will most likely be the winner of Umar vs Bautista for the number 1 contender.
