Robert Whittaker Predicts “Probable” Winner Of Adesanya vs Dricus du Plessis Fight

“The Reaper” of the UFC has picked his favorite to win the UFC 305 headliner between Israel Adesanya and reigning middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis. According to Robert Whittaker, there is a 50-50 chance for both fighters to win the bout. Robert Whittaker fought both the fighters earlier, and it’s fair to say that he knows their fighting styles; unfortunately, Israel Adesanya and Dricus du Plessis defeated the former middleweight champion via knockout. When asked about his opinion on how the fight will go, he breaks down both fighter’s strategies and what could happen in the cage. Here’s what he said.

“If I had to make a pick, I would say there’s a 50 percent chance — this is my confidence here, ‘kay? They’re 50-50 odds,” That’s how much I think either one could sway. I think there’s a 50 percent chance ‘Izzy’ kind of keeps him at the end of his jab, utilizes that spacing, doesn’t get his back put against the fence, defends a takedown, but ultimately wins by decision. Then I think there’s a 50 percent chance Dricus does what he did to [Sean] Strickland. Pushes into that space, takes him down, wears him out, turns it to a dog fight. Doesn’t get a finish but drags it out to the point where he is still the remaining champion. 50-50 my money’s on those two kinds of results/methods.

After sharing his opinion, he finally picked one, and that was Dricus du Plessis, whom he thinks has the most awkward style of fighting, which works for him as in all 7 fights in the UFC, he mainly came an underdog to win the bout but pulled a victory every time. That is what happened with the fight against Whittaker, where DDP knocked him out in round 2, and then in his title fight, he defeated Sean Strickland to become the UFC middleweight champion.
