Tom Aspinall To Defend His Title At The UFC 321 Against Ciryl Gane

Tom Aspinall vs Curtis Blaydes during their fight

The wait is over for Tom Aspinall as the UFC heavyweight champion will enter the Octagon in 2025 in October to defend his heavyweight title for the first time. At UFC 321, Tom Aspinall will fight Ciryl Gane in the main event, the Brit was crowned as the undisputed champ after Jon Jones announced his retirement from the UFC one month back. Tom Aspinall who fought last in June 2024 against Curtis Blaydes to defend his interim heavyweight belt called out Jon Jones in the post-fight interview and since then UFC tried to book this fight but it was “Bones” who announced his unexpected retirement in June.

Jon Jones turned back from his retirement as soon as US President Donald Trump announced that he was planning a UFC event at the White House. However, Dana White seemed reluctant to put Jon Jones on the fight card at the White House due to the former champion’s history. Here’s what he said when he was asked about Jon Jones in the White House card.

You know how I felt about him (Jones). I can’t risk putting him in big positions, in a big spot and have something go wrong,” said White. “Especially the White House card.”

Dana White said

Ciryl Gane already had two opportunities in his UFC career to win the heavyweight title, but he failed both times, losing his first title fight against Francis Ngannou and then being choked out by Jon Jones in the first round, shattering his dreams of becoming a champion again. Since then, the fighter has won two fights,, and the UFC has given him another chance to grab the belt, which could be his last opportunity. The French heavyweight could fight for the title, and if he loses, then he would go down in getting a title shot again.
