Aljamain Sterling Accused Sean O’Malley Of Taking “Jake Paul Route” To Get Wins

Former UFC Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has accused the reigning champion Sean O’Malley of picking favorable matchups that suit his style to get where he is now. Sean O’Malley, who settled the score with Marlon Vera at UFC 299, winning the fight via unanimous decision, will be fighting the no. 1 Bantamweight contender Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306. According to the former champion, who is also the friend and training partner of Merab, the reason behind Sean O’Malley’s rise is the UFC providing him opponents who matched “Suga’s” style of fighting, due to which he got the title shot quickly.

“So, he knows all this. I’m pretty sure he knows all this. Only O’Malley could disclose this, right? Or at least the UFC knew that’s what they wanted to do for sure. Give him the best opportunity that they could to become a world champion by hindering and stacking the deck against his opponent. For me, as a competitor, I can never respect that as a man — as a man, as a competitor. It’s like the Jake Paul route.

Though Sean O’Malley defeated Aljamain Sterling to become the Bantamweight champion, the former champ thinks Suga has yet to prove to the world that he is the best in the division. According to Funkmaster, Sean should have fought Merab Dvalishvili in his first title defense, but UFC presented him with Marlon Vera, the only fighter against whom Sean lost in his professional career. “Suga” went through “Chito” in a five-round bout and defended his title, but Sterling thinks that is all because Chito isn’t that good at ground game and striking.

Sean O’Malley might be getting his toughest title defenses ahead. He will fight Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306, and if he secures a victory, the undefeated fighter Umar Nurmagomedov will be waiting next.
