Former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has officially pulled out from his scheduled fight at UFC 307 against Movsar Evloev. The Funkmaster suffered an elbow injury during sparring. Though the injury doesn’t require surgery, Aljo is not willing to take any risk, and that’s what he revealed in the video he uploaded on his YouTube channel.

Unfortunately, I have to break the news I will not be competing in Salt Lake City at UFC 307,” Sterling said. “In sparring, I had an injury not requiring surgery, but I was advised by the UFC medical staff that I will not be able to properly compete in this short of a turnaround.

Aljamain Sterling revealed that he did all he could to get it treated but didn’t get complete relief. He took medical advice, and the professionals left the decision to his conscience. Funkmaster decided not to fight until he recovered from the injury. In the video, he apologized to his opponent Movsar Evloev for pulling out and wants to fight if the Russian is ready to delay the date.

I did the stem cells. I took time off. I tried to rehab it as much as I can, as best as I can with the [UFC Performance Institute] team here, and unfortunately, it’s out of my hands now. I apologize to Movsar and his team. We’ve been talking and I was really looking forward to punching this guy in his face.”

Movsar Evloev replied to Aljamain Sterling after getting an update about the latter’s injury. In his tweet, he showed his willingness to fight anyone and wanted to be part of UFC 307, as he trained hard to fight Funkmaster. So far, the UFC hasn’t provided an update about the replacement or whether the fight is still on. An update is awaited on the fight.
