Sean O’Malley’s lackluster performance during the UFC 306 left many in doubt about the physical condition of the “Suga,” post-loss, former Bantamweight champion revealed that before the fight, he tore his hip labrum and that injury contributed to his loss. Kudos to Sean O’Malley for accepting the fact that his injury wasn’t the only reason behind his loss, as Merab Dvalishvili outclassed him in the title fight. Now, the UFC president, Dana White, has his opinion on the injury, and he didn’t look happy about “Suga” being injured and not telling the doctors about that.
During the Dana White Contender Series 72 press conference, the UFC president said this about Sean O’Malley’s injury.
“If these guys come in and they have something that we don’t know. I mean, how would the doctors check for a torn labrum? You know what I mean? You can’t!”
Dana White said
When asked about the performance of the former Bantamweight champion in the main event, he replied.
“Literally everybody reached out to me that night and said Sean O’Malley didn’t look like himself. He didn’t look explosive, he didn’t look, you know, all the same stuff we were all saying that night. Not to take anything from Merab, but, I mean everybody felt that way.”
He replied
Sean O’Malley will take a long time off from fighting as the injury requires surgery, and it will take time to heal and get into the old rhythm. The next opponent for the new Bantamweight champion, Merab Dvalishvili, remains to be seen. In the line to get a shot to the title next, undefeated fighter Umar Nurmagomedov looks promising, but whether the match-up between these two wrestling-heavy fighters would come to fruition or not is up to the UFC. The next big event is UFC 307, where Alex Pereira will defend his title against Khalil Rountree Jr.
