Dricus du Plessis after his win

UFC middleweight division has one big fight in the making, a fight where the reigning middleweight champ, Dricus du Plessis, will defend his title against the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev. Both fighters’ back and forth on social media is hyping the fight. Though many in the MMA community tag the Chechen fighter Khamzat Chimaev, the “Boogeyman” of the UFC, middleweight champ Dricus du Plessis doesn’t share the same opinion as, according to the “Stillknocks”, “Borz” isn’t worth the hype.

In a recent appearance on the Ariel Helwani show, Dricus du Plessis shared his honest take on the undefeated fighter and said this.

‘No, I just don’t care really, he’s [Chimaev] a big name. I think after the Whittaker win, sure why not.”

People think of Khamzat as this boogeyman. That’s a fact. I don’t. I don’t see that. For me, I only see one thing. That’s the potential to do good to my legacy. The potential to make my legacy even better.”

Dricus du Plessis defeated Sean Strickland at UFC 312 to retain his middleweight title in his most dominant performance so far for 5 rounds in the cage and called out Alex Pereira in the post-fight interview. However, the fight between these two will be mind-boggling. He is ready to defend his title one more time, and his next target is to steal the “0” of Khamzat Chimaev, who, after his dominant first-round win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 308, deserves a title shot.

The UFC hasn’t officially announced the fight, but the two have already started training for their next assignments. If everything goes well, fight fans will see Dricus du Plessis defend his title one more time in 2025 against one of the most lethal fighters, Khamzat Chimaev.
