UFC featherweight champ Ilia Topuria is one of the biggest MMA stars in the making, and after beating two former featherweight champions back to back, he certainly lived up to the hype. At UFC 308, he did what everybody thought could be nothing more than talking, but the Spaniard “walked the talk” and knocked out the fighter with one of the greatest chins in the MMA; Max Holloway could only take the pressure till the 3rd round of the fight and got his first defeat via knock out in his professional career.
Among doubters, there was a Football star and worldwide known personality, Christiano Ronaldo, who picked Max Holloway before the UFC 308 bout, and that’s what irked the reigning featherweight champ Ilia Topuria who didn’t hold himself and showed his disappointment towards his favorite football club “Real Madrid” former player in an interview with Juanma Castano of El Partidazo Cope, Ilia Topuria hit back at Ronaldo and said this.
“I saw a clip where he said that I’m all talk. Cristiano, he always has something to say. I’m going to personally invite Messi because he lives there. I would like to fight the number one contender, who is Charles Oliveira. We have Messi, Ronaldo can f— himself,”

However, Christiano Ronaldo distanced himself from the controversy and didn’t escalate it further by replying to Ilia. MMA coach Eric Nicksick revealed that it was actually his words that influenced the football star to pick Max Holloway instead of the Spaniard to win the bout.
During the Episode “Verse Us with Eric Nicksick,” Merab Dvalishvili was the guest who mentioned how good Ilia’s game is. Eric Nicksick was quick to issue an apology on behalf of Christiano Ronaldo for the UFC 308 pickings.
Ilia, I’m sorry that I picked Max [Holloway] in front of [Cristiano] Ronaldo. Poor Ronaldo is taking heat from Ilia. That was my fault. My bad,” Erick Nicksick stated. “He’s like, ‘Who do you got in the fight?’ I was like, ‘I lean, lean; I lean towards Max.’”
