Islam Makhachev’s Coach Warned Alexander Volkanovski Before The Rematch

Islam vs Alex Volkanovski

Islam Makhachev got the replacement for his fight at the UFC 294 in the last minutes as the Australian champ Alexander Volkanovski accepted the fight two weeks prior to the fight, which makes this fight more interesting as in the last fight both fighters showed their prowess in both ground and foot games, and accepting the fight on such short notice clearly shows the mettle this fighter has, but before the fight, Islam Makhachev’s coach Javier Mendez had some advice for the Australian champ, and here is what he said for the fighter.

“He’s going to take chances. He’s going to take more chances than last time. He’s not going to be worried about the takedowns, because he’s obviously survived the ground last time, and he also did his best work on the ground, not in the standup. So he’s not going to be afraid of anything. And that’s the one thing I feel he’s going to do, is he’s going to come, and he’s going to come throwing.”

Mendez told Submission Radio

Mendez was backing up the decision to schedule a rematch between the two fighters, as he also wanted Islam to silence the doubters who think that Volkanovski won the previous fight despite judges scoring in favor of Islam.

“I was kind of thinking, did I wish this to happen or something? Because I’m the one that was talking about, for me, this is the fight that I think needs to happen,” Mendez said. “Because, I wanted this fight for me personally. Not for Islam. Islam will fight anybody. But I wanted this one, for me. Because I felt that there was unfinished business. Not that I was thinking, ‘Oh, we didn’t win.’ We did win. And we won clearly, in my eyes. We won clearly
