“It means the world to me,” Jon Jones Explained Why He Came Back Out Of Retirement

On July 3, US president Donald Trump announced that he is thinking to host a UFC event at the White House ground in honor of America 250. Since the announcement came out, many fighters showed interest to be a part of the fight card at the White House and among them was Jon Jones who announced his retirement from the sport 2 weeks before Donald Trump’s announcement. Jon Jones announced his retirement on June 21 and interim champ Tom Aspinall was crowned as the new world heavyweight champion of the UFC. Here’s what he said during on the 2025 ESPYS Red Carpet show.

“I was retired. I felt like I was at a place where I’ve done it all in the MMA space. I felt like there wasn’t too many more challenges for me and I just wanted to do something more than championships and money and Donald Trump mentioned that he wanted to have a fight at the White House garden,”

Jones said

He explained why he decided to came back to be the part of a fight event at the UFC.

“That just seems like such a huge opportunity. I’m a very proud American. I have a lot of close friends who are in the military and this is my act; I can’t call it service but to be able to entertain the country and the world at this level at the White House, it means the world to me. So, I’m back.”

He added

Dana White is equally excited for the White House event and said that he will make the best card of the UFC for the special occasion and also eyeing to get a fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall done at the White House meanwhile Conor McGregor is also back in the testing pool indicating his return to the octagon after a long break.
