Former UFC lightweight champion and one of the most well-known UFC stars, Khabib Nurmagomedov, recently shared his views on who between Ilia Topuria and Jack Della Maddalena would be a formidable challenger for his friend and disciple, Islam Makhachev. The former UFC champion picked the latter.

He further explained why he thinks the new Welterweight champion is a bigger threat to Islam Makhachev; here’s what he said while praising the Australian.
First of all, Maddalena is twice the size of Ilia [Topuria]. He’s twice as big. Taller, bigger, stronger legs, bigger frame. His boxing is just as good… And in grappling, he scrambles really well, if you’ve watched him. “For me, if I were preparing Islam for either Ilia or Maddalena, I’d be more concerned, and am more concerned about Maddalena.”

No matter what the former champion says about the Spaniard or the new Lightweight champion, Ilia Topuria, it is a fact that he is on the most incredible three-fight win streak in the history of the UFC, in which he knocked out former champions cold. No one has ever done what Ilia Topuria did to Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway, and Charles Oliveira. After the latest win at UFC 317, Ilia also became P4P king, dethroning Islam Makhachev.
The new lightweight champion is willing to fight Islam Makhachev, who has also moved up to chase the double-champion status. At the end of the year, fans can see a fight between Islam Makhachev and Jack Della Maddalena. If the latter manages to defeat the new welterweight champ, then a battle between Ilia Topuria and Islam Makhachev will be inevitable.
