“I’m planning to strike with him” Merab Dvalishvili Is Ready To Strike Against Sean O’Malley At UFC 316

At UFC 316 main event, Merab Dvalishvili will defend his title against the former Bantamweight champ Sean O’Malley. Merab being the guy he is uploaded a video a week before where he showed his injured toe and hilariously said that if required he will cut it off to fight with Sean O’Malley, In the previous encounter at UFC Noche, Merab Dvalishvili outclassed “Suga” to won the belt via unanimous decision. It was the relentless pace of “The Machine”, which was too much for “Suga” and ultimately Merab was crowned the new Bantamweight champion.

The Georgian defended his title against Umar Nurmagomedov in January 2025 and will defend it in once again against Sean O’Malley at UFC 316. As known, “Suga” is an absolute sniper when it comes to striking though he has to work on his grappling skills and against Merab who shoots takedowns so frequently it is absolutely needed. However, the reigning Bantamweight champ ahead of his fight said that instead of relying only on his wrestling he will strike with former champ and will go for a finish.

In a recent interview with Kevin Iole, he said this

“I think [the rematch] will be different because Sean will make some adjustments, he may stuff my takedowns, and if he stops my takedowns now, I’m planning to strike with him and keep up and challenge my striking with another top opponent. I’m ready for a very strong Sean O’Malley, and I’m also looking for a finish in this fight.”

Merab said

If Merab defends his title against Sean O’Malley at UFC 316, he will become one of the greatest Bantamweights in the UFC and extend his winning streak to 13, which will become the longest winning streak in the history of the Bantamweight division.
