Prannoy and Sen Suffer Early Exits in China Open Super 1000 Tournament

HS Prannoy

HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen faced unexpected defeats in the first round of the China Open Super 1000 tournament.

World No. 6 Prannoy, who recently secured a bronze medal in the World Championships, struggled in the initial set and was defeated 12-21 by Malaysia’s World No. 22 Ng Tze Yong. Despite a strong comeback in the second set, Prannoy ultimately lost 12-21, 21-13, 18-21 in a match that lasted over an hour.

Similarly, Commonwealth Games champion Sen found himself in a tough contest against Denmark’s Anders Antonsen. Sen, like Prannoy, lost the first game but made a strong comeback in the second. However, he was unable to maintain his momentum and succumbed to a 23-21, 16-21, 21-9 defeat in the third game.

Both Indian shuttlers displayed determination and resilience but were unable to secure victory in their respective matches. Their early exits from the tournament were unexpected disappointments, considering their recent performances on the international badminton circuit.

The defeats serve as a reminder of the fierce competition in the China Open Super 1000 tournament, where top-ranked players face strong challenges right from the start. Despite the setbacks, Prannoy and Sen will be eager to bounce back and continue their pursuit of success in future badminton competitions.
