England’s batter and former captain Joe Root is looking more focused towards future matches rather than feeling sad for the last test loss, as he urges the fans to just move on from the controversial run-out incident during Test 2 of the Ashes series, which ultimately led to England’s second loss in the series despite Captain Ben Stokes heroics of 155 runs. Australia went on to win the match by 43 runs and take a 2-0 lead in the five-match Ashes series. Joe Root, though starting well in the Ashes, making unbeaten 118 and 46 in the first test, looked inefficient in the second as he only scored 28 runs in two innings, contributing nothing with the bat for his team.
The heat of the match was shown off the field as well when the Australian players were not welcomed in a positive manner by the members of the MCC when they were marching past the long room during the lunch break. Just before the lunch break, the controversial run-out happened and England fans started booing. Khwaja and Warner almost had an altercation with the MCC members in the long room, and the footage revealed how badly they were trolled.
Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum also showed their disappointments after the match, and here is what Joe Root said on the controversial run-out and urged the England fans during the press conference:
I think it’s time for everyone to move on and we can concentrate on this game now. We’ve got to play well for three games and we’ve shown our in our recent form, that we’re more than capable of doing that,”.
There’s always going to be respect there [between the teams], but you’re allowed to disagree on certain things and see the game differently and clearly that is the case on this topic,”
Joe Root Said.
