India announced the much-awaited 17-player squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, which would be jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka starting from August 30. Some big names are included in the announced squad, and injured players like KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are named in the squad, which confirms that these players are out of the injury as of now and would be seen in action. As far as the bowling department is concerned, Jasprit Bumrah is included in the team as the bowler is successfully out of the injury and is back in the team captaining India against Ireland in the three-match T20I series, and now he will be seen in action during the Asia Cup 2023.
Selectors gave Tilak Varma an opportunity to prove his mettle in the ODI format, as the youngster has represented India in the T20Is, and so far he has proven himself as a potential left-handed batter that could play a different game between the overs, though presently in the Ireland series he has failed to perform and got out on duck during the first T20I and then on 1 in the second match, despite that Indian selectors wanted to test him in the ODIs before the World Cup 2023.
Indian fans would see Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul making a comeback in the team after a long time, and as selectors are not sure about Shreyas Iyer, that’s why Sanju Samson has been picked up as a backup in the team. Ajit Agarkar, during the press conference, said this:
We saw some real promise in west indies. It will give him some exposure. We can pick 17 here in the World Cup, it would be 15.
