Man United Faces Massive Restructuring: Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Takeover Spurs Major Staff Cuts
British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly approved a substantial exodus at Manchester United, signaling a significant restructuring of the club following his anticipated £1.3 billion investment. As Ratcliffe prepares to acquire a 25 percent stake, insiders suggest he will wield control over recruitment and staff management at Old Trafford.
Insider sources informed Football Insider that Ratcliffe has greenlit the elimination of approximately 100 jobs in what is described as a “huge” exodus, highlighting his belief that the club is currently overstaffed across various departments. United, according to the Daily Mail, boasts over 1,100 employees, making it the Premier League’s largest workforce, with a noticeable surge from around 800 to 1112 staff members in the current year alone. In contrast, their ‘Big Six’ rivals Liverpool and Manchester City have 900 and 720 staff, respectively.
The restructuring plan is expected to affect multiple departments, with Ratcliffe aiming to make substantial savings on the club’s wage bill. Despite United announcing a club-record revenue of £648.4 million in their 2022/23 accounts in October, they still reported a loss of £42 million. Ratcliffe’s move to trim staff is seen as an early step in his ambitious rebuilding process for the Manchester club.
The impending announcement of Ratcliffe’s investment is anticipated in the coming days, and it is expected to mark the beginning of a new era for Manchester United. As the club braces for significant changes under Ratcliffe’s ownership, the impact of these strategic decisions on both the team’s performance and off-field operations remains a focal point for fans and pundits alike.
