Explosive Lightweight contender Michael Chandler will return to the octagon this Saturday night after over two years to fight in a rematch against former champ Charles Oliveira. The highly anticipated rematch came to fruition after the heartbreaking cancellation of the bout between Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor, where the latter pulled out from the fight, leaving the final showdown of TUF 31 incomplete. Michael Chandler was fed up chasing McGregor, which caused UFC to book him with Charles Oliveira, who defeated him in their first fight to claim the title. Though Chandler is preparing for “Do Bronx,” he is still optimistic that if Conor returns, he will fight him for his UFC legacy.
While talking to the MainEvent YouTube channel, Chandler revealed that the UFC wants him to drop his plans to fight McGregor “For Now,” but he is not giving up hope of fighting McGregor as he thinks that the latter will not taint his UFC legacy by not fighting him in his return.
“If Conor comes back, his road comes back through Nashville, Tennessee and Michael Chandler – we’ve got to finish The Ultimate Fighter 31… Say what you want about Conor, he is nothing without the UFC and the sport of MMA and I think he knows that.
Chandler said
It doesn’t matter which division Conor McGregor fights in his return; he is prepared to take the fight in any division the UFC wants him to.
“He’s never once pulled out of a fight ever, and he’s fought injured numerous times so I wish him well in his recovery and getting his house in order, so that we can finish TUF 31… 170lbs, 155lbs, or 185lbs – I don’t care what it is, it’s just a fight that I want – I want the biggest names, the brightest lights, the biggest platforms and I’ve always said that.”
