UFC reigning Bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili defended his title against the then-undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 311. A lot of MMA analysts and experts called Umar to be the toughest fight of Merab’s career, but that wasn’t the case with the champ as he opened up about fighting Umar Nurmagomedov after outclassing the latter on the ground where the Dagestani fighters always had an upper edge over their opponents. Recently while talking on “The Ariel Helwani Show,” Merab revealed what it was like in the Octagon against the “Young Eagle.”
” It just happened and it’s it’s hard to realize it feels for me like another sparing session. it’s crazy and yesterday I was driving back from the California and then social media I had a little bit time in social media that’s what I feel more and because now everybody make lots of memes from the fight and they make a lot of jokes and so I know Umar was good he was top 18 but I know also he was not on my level you know I know what I’m capable to do it and um I’m glad now everyone knows.
Merab Dvalishvili said
“The Machine,” after lagging behind in the first two rounds of the fight, picked up his pace from the third and took Umar Nurmagomedov into deep waters where the so-far unbeaten Bantamweight was no match. Merab Dvalishvili showed the world he has the pace and spirit to outclass any fighter in his division. Even one of the best fighters, Umar Nurmagomedov, was nowhere near the cardio machine; in fact, in the 4th round. The champ didn’t try to defend his back from Umar and surrendered it, but Umar couldn’t stop the champ due to fatigue.
Merab Dvalishvili is ready to take on any opponent the UFC offers him next, and former champ Sean O’Malley is most likely to get another chance against Merab this year.
