India vs England: India won the five-match series by 4-1 against England after Abhishek Sharma’s record-breaking century in the 5th and final T20I match of the series at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
England’s captain, Jos Buttler, after winning the toss, chose to bowl first. The regular pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma opened the innings for India, and England came with the same plan of bowling a short delivery to Sanju Samson. Though the wicket-keeper batter spoiled the plan by hitting a six on the first delivery of the match and then another one in the fifth ball of the first over, he eventually got caught at deep square leg in the next over as England’s plan worked.
Now, it was the time for Abhishek Sharma to unleash himself, and the batter put his foot on the accelerator to start smashing the bowlers all over the park. The batter smashed his fifty in 17 balls. He got the support of Tilak Varma from the other end as the two did a 100+ run partnership for the second wicket. Tilak Varma got out after scoring 24 runs, but Abhishek Sharma kept going to score the 2nd fastest T20I century for India, which came in just 37 balls. Other batters couldn’t do anything significant. Abhishek Sharma’s 135 runs helped India put 247 runs on the board at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 248 runs, England’s Phil Salt started aggressively and hit 17 runs in the first over of the chase, but Mohammad Shami made a comeback by dismissing Ben Duckett in the next over on a duck. Jos Buttler hit some boundaries after that as England put 48 runs in 4 overs. From there, Indian spinners came to attack, and Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Jos Buttler in his first ball of the spell. Then, Ravi Bishnoi removed Harry Brook as England’s batting order started crumbling. Though Phil Salt scored his fifty at the start of Shivam Dube’s spell, he was caught behind the wicket, and from there, it was an easy win for India. England was bowled out for 97 runs in 10.3 overs as India won the match by 150 runs.

India vs England, 5th T20I: Captains’ Corner
“It’s always about being a little instinctive on the ground, whoever you feel might do something, throw them the ball. This is what we’ve sat down and spoken about, what brand of cricket we want to play, and we want to keep sticking to it. It’s a high-risk, high-reward game, but at the end of the day we’re getting the results.
Suryakumar Yadav(India’s captain) said post-match
We’re disappointed to lose the series, but we’ve done some things well and some things we want to improve on. We want to keep committing to this style of cricket and execute better. India are a fantastic side, especially at home, and we’re better for the experience, the experience of great crowds like this at the Wankhede.
Jos Buttler(England’s captain) said post-match
