England’s skipper, Jos Buttler, won the toss and decided to bowl first. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill opened the innings for India. However, this time, he wasn’t able to continue his last match performance and got out on just 1 run. Virat Kohli came early and built the partnership with Shubman Gill for the second wicket. Both batters scored their fifties and took the score to 122 runs, but Adil Rashid dismissed Virat Kohli on 52 runs. Shubman Gill went on to score his century and got the support of Shreyas Iyer from the other end as India crossed the mark of 200 in the 30th over. Iyer scored his fifty and, before getting out, hit 78 runs for his team. At the end of 50 overs, India was bowled out for 356 runs.
Chasing the huge target openers of the England side started with Phil Salt, and Ben Duckett started well with the bat. Both batters put 60 runs on the board at the end of 6 overs, but in the 7th over, Arshdeep Singh made a comeback and bowled a knuckleball to dismiss Ben Duckett. Phil Salt was the next to get dismissed. Tom Banton and Joe Root’s partnership was for a brief time, but Kuldeep Yadav dismissed the former, whereas Axar Patel trapped the latter. No batter afterward fought back as Indian bowlers picked wickets to bowl out England on the score of 214 in 34.2 overs.

Similar to the whole tour, we threatened in stages but were outplayed by a fantastic team. Our approach is the right one, it’s just that we haven’t executed well. We need to find ways to play that style better. They put a really good score on the board. Shubman played a great innings, we were going to have to play really well to chase that down. We got off to a great start again but it’s a familiar story for us. We need to find a way to extend that, and bat for longer. We were up against a really good side that keeps challenging us.”
