Ritu Phogat To Make His Return In ONE Championship At ONE 171: Qatar

Ritu Phogat after her win

The Indian Tigress, Ritu Phogat, is gearing up to roar at the ONE 171 on 20th February to break the winning streak of the surging Japanese atomweight Ayaka Miura. Ritu Phogat took off from combat sports for nearly two and a half years to start a family and was blessed with a baby boy. It will be a special moment for the Commonwealth wrestling gold medalist to fight at the ONE as a mother, and that’s what makes the bout more exciting for her as she is ready to prove that though she is a mother now, she can fight and dominate with the same intensity in the cage.

Previewing her fight with Ayaka Miura, Ritu Phogat said this about her mindset while making her return to the MMA world.

“If I had to make a prediction, I would say that I just want to win this match. I can already see myself winning. I need to win the match, whether it happens in the first round or any other round.”

Ritu Phogat, who took a break from her MMA career, had seven wins, but in her last two fights, she faced back-to-back defeats. On the other hand, the Japanese fighter Ayaka Miura has three straight wins and will be looking to add another one to her name when the ONE Championship returns to Qatar for the second straight year.

“The Indian Tigress” explained her family’s role in motivating her to restart her career again, and she was also determined to inspire her child once he grew up.

Now, I don’t fight for myself, but for my child. This makes me stronger because when my child grows up, he’ll know how much effort his mother put in. That’s what motivates me the most.

“Family also plays a big role in this. Earlier, it was my parents and sisters, and after marriage, it’s my husband and his family. Now, I have the support of two families, which makes things a bit easier.”
