India vs New Zealand final: India lifted the Champions Trophy after 12 years by defeating New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Stadium, UAE.
New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. Will Young and Rachin Ravindra started well and put pressure on India’s pace bowling line-up. Rachin Ravindra led the charge and started scoring runs all over the park. After 7 overs, skipper Rohit Sharma made the change and brought Varun Chakravarthy to the attack, and the bowler didn’t disappoint and picked up his first wicket for India; he dismissed Will Young on 15 runs. Kuldeep Yadav got the better of Rachin Ravindra and bowled him on an unplayable delivery in the first over of his spell.
Then, he caught and bowled Kane Williamson to get 3rd wicket for his side. Tom Latahm and Daryl Mitchell started building a partnership, but Ravindra Jadeja cleaned Latham on the 24th. Now, Glenn Phillips joined hands with Daryl Mitchell, who scored his fifty. Varun Chakravarthy hit the stumps in his 8th over and picked up the wicket of Glenn Phillips as New Zealand lost its 5th batter.
Michael Bracewell showed the resistance and hit a good fifty for his side to take the score of New Zealand to 251 runs at the end of 50 overs.
Chasing a total of 252 runs, India got the dream start in the final. Skipper Rohit Sharma and right-handed batter Shubman Gill came to the crease with a clear intent. Rohit Sharma did the early damage by scoring a quick fifty for his team as the opening batters surpassed the score of 100 runs in 18 overs. It seemed like India could reach the target way before 50 overs, but then came the twist in the game as Glenn Phillips caught an absolute stunner to dismiss Shubman Gill on the score of 31 runs.
Then, Bracewell picked up Virat Kohli’s wicket with a score of just 1 run. India lost 2 quick wickets. Spinners started putting pressure on the Indian side, and in desperation to score runs, Rohit Sharma got stumped in the 27th over as India lost 3 wickets on the score of 122 runs. Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel partnered for the 4th wicket to take their team closer to the target, but again, New Zealand bowlers made a comeback and picked up the wicket of Shreyas Iyer. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya kept the chase going; even after Hardik Pandya was dismissed, KL Rahul took the game to an end, and with Ravindra Jadeja hitting the final boundary of the match, India chased the target and won the game by 4 wickets.

India vs New Zealand, Final , ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Captains’ Corner
I appreciate everyone who came to support us. The crowd has been amazing. Not our home ground but they made it our home ground. Very satisfying win. Right form the beginning our spinners… there is too much expectation but they never disappointed. It helped them and we used that to our advantage. We were very consistent with our bowling. [KL] A very solid mind, never gets overawed with the pressure around him. He finished off the game for us. He picks the right shot to play in the pressure situation which allows the rest of the batters to play freely.
Rohit Sharma(India’s Captain) said post-match
It’s been a good tournament. We have been challenged along the way and the way we have grown as a group. We lost to a better side today. Everyone contributed to the tournament and put their hands up at different rimes. It was good bowling. We lost a couple of wickets after the powerplay and they really got the squeeze on. Credit to how their spinners how they bowled. They are world-class bowlers. We were 20 or 25 under to what we were looking for. [Phillips catch] That man he keeps doing it. The way Rohit and Gill went about it was great. Rohit going at almost run a ball on that wicket was outstanding. We knew the game could change quickly and that happened.
