A shocking update came from the West Indian Cricket as the Wicket-keeper batter, Nicholas Pooran, announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. It is pretty surprising for international cricket as, one after the other, cricketers who are still young are quitting. Just after the conclusion of the IPL 2025, South Africa’s batter Heinrich Klaasen announced his retirement, and now Nicholas Pooran has said goodbye to International cricket. Though he will participate in franchise cricket, he will not represent the West Indian side on the international stage anymore.
The ICC should investigate why such rising talents have recently left international cricket. The left-handed wicket-keeper batter has scored most runs from the Caribbean side in T20Is. In the 106 matches he played for the side, he scored 2,275 runs at a strike rate of 136.39, which includes 13 fifties. In the Day international, he played 61 matches, scoring 3 centuries and 11 fifties in the ODI. The southpaw played good cricket in the IPL 2025 while representing Lucknow Super Giants. Though his team couldn’t qualify for the playoffs, he has played his role as a batter perfectly in the league.
Nicholas Pooran, announcing his retirement, posted this on his social media handle.
“After much thought and reflection, I’ve decided to announce my retirement from international Cricket. This game we love has given and will continue to give so much – joy, purpose, unforgettable memories, and a chance to represent the people of the West Indies. Wearing that maroon, standing for the anthem, and giving everything I had each time I stepped on the field… it’s hard to put into words what that truly means to me. To have led the team as captain is a privilege I will always hold close to my heart.”
