Red Sox and Yankees Face Off in Fenway Park Doubleheader Amidst Rain Delays, Battling to Avoid Last Place in AL East

MLB doubleheader

In a week filled with rescheduled games and rain delays, the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are gearing up for another day-night doubleheader at Fenway Park. This comes after Wednesday’s game had to be postponed due to heavy rain in the Boston area.

The first game of the doubleheader is set to kick off at 1:35 p.m. ET on Thursday, followed by the originally scheduled series finale at 7:15 p.m. ET. Fans holding tickets for Wednesday’s postponed game will be able to use them for admission to the rescheduled contest.

For Game 1, Tanner Houck will take the mound for the Red Sox, and he’ll face off against the Yankees’ right-handed pitcher, Michael King. However, the Red Sox have yet to announce their starting pitcher for Game 2, while the Yankees will go with right-hander Clarke Schmidt.

This series was initially slated to begin on Monday, but Mother Nature had other plans, leading to a rainout. The Yankees took full advantage of Tuesday’s day-night doubleheader, winning both games with scores of 3-2 and 4-1, respectively.

The sweep helped the Yankees catch up to the Red Sox, and both teams now sit with identical 73-72 records. With just 17 games left in the season, neither team wants to end up in last place in the American League East, adding some extra motivation to these matchups.

September has been a challenging month for the Red Sox, who were in contention for the third AL Wild Card spot earlier in the season but have struggled recently, losing six of their last seven games and 11 out of their last 15.

On the other hand, the Yankees, who are trying to avoid their first losing season since 1992, have found some late-season success by winning 11 of their last 15 games.
