The Pakistan and Sri Lanka Super Four match was an absolute thriller that went to the very last ball of the match, forcing fans to stick to their chairs. Though rain led to some stoppages for a brief time due to which the overs were reduced to 42, Pakistan batting first put a total of 252 runs on the board for the loss of seven wickets, while chasing the target, Sri Lankan batters showed resilience towards Pakistan’s bowling attack. Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama built the partnership to strengthen Sri Lanka’s position; Babar Azam’s men had no answers to that, though in the penultimate over, Shaheen Shah Afridi almost dragged the match towards Pakistan’s side by taking two wickets, but Charith Asalanka kept his calm in the final over and won the match for his team.

After Sri Lanka’s victory, millions of cricket fans’ hopes of seeing India vs. Pakistan clash in the finals of the Asia Cup 2023 are shattered. Babar Azam was also disappointed with the loss and admitted that Sri Lanka was playing a better game during the match. During the post-match press conference, he opened on the performance of all-rounder Shadab Khan, whose performance was not up to the mark with the ball as he picked only 1 wicket during his 9-over spell, giving 55 runs. Babar Azam, clarifying the all-rounder’s performance, said that he is bowling well, but he didn’t get as many wickets as he used to.

“Shadab is bowling very well but he is not taking any wicket. So that’s why you feel he is not bowling well. He is bowling well by unfortunately he is not taking any wickets. He is one of your best bowlers, Nawaz and Shadab”
