Blue Cards To Be Introduced In Top Tier Of Football Leagues

Read about the blue card introduction in the top tier of the football league and how it is going to affect the world of football in the future.

The Football Association gave the green signal for the Blue Card introduction, also known as the 10-minute sin bins, in which the player has to leave the ground for 10 minutes when the referee shows him a blue card for a serious foul committed by the player during the match.

Where it has been used

The blue card was first introduced in the Seria B League in 2016, which is the second of the Italian League, and then it was also used in the 2017 Toulon Tournament. In 2018, it was used in an international youth football tournament and then in the Chinese Super League.

When will it be used in Top-tier Football Leagues?

FA approved the use of the Blue card for the next season in FA Cup matches in both men’s and women’s football. There is also a chance that many other leagues, like Bundesliga and La Liga, will also introduce this system in their domestic league.

What is the purpose of the Blue Card?

In recent times, there have been many incidents where fouls being made, which is not very hard and soft, made it hard for a referee to decide whether they should give a red card or a yellow. Because of that, a Blue Card is also going to be used for the player who will waste time on pitches.

What are the rules for the blue card?

The rules for the blue card are as follows:

  • A player can only be shown a blue card once per match.
  • A player must serve a 10-minute suspension if they receive a blue card.
  • If a player receives a second blue card in the same match, they are sent off.
  • A player who receives a blue card is not eligible to play in the next match.
