Cameron Green’s Brave Battle: Australian Cricketer Reveals Stage Two Chronic Kidney Disease
In a heartfelt revelation, Australian allrounder Cameron Green has opened up about his ongoing battle with stage two chronic kidney disease. Although not currently in the playing XI against Pakistan, Green shared his journey in a video during the first day of the 1st Test match in Perth.
The 22-year-old disclosed that he has been managing chronic kidney disease since infancy, with the condition diagnosed through ultrasounds shortly after birth. Chronic kidney disease is a progressive health issue affecting kidney function, and Green’s kidneys are currently operating at around 60%, placing him in stage two of the condition.
During a 19-week scan, an issue with thickening of the bladder was detected, linked to a urethral valve blockage. This condition led to urine backflow, impacting kidney development. Despite this, Cameron Green has largely navigated his cricket career without significant setbacks.
Reflecting on an ODI match in September 2022, Green recalled a cramping episode after a long day of bowling and batting. Initially attributing it to fatigue, he realized it might have been related to his kidney condition. Cameron Green hopes to help others facing similar challenges by raising awareness about his situation.
Currently not part of the playing XI, Green’s revelation coincided with the Australian summer kick-off. In the first Test against Pakistan in Perth, David Warner scored 164. He gave a solid reply to Mitchell Johnson, who criticized the Australian selector for picking Warner, but Warner proved why he is an all-time great for Australia.
Despite Green’s absence, the Australian team remains in high spirits after recent victories at the Cricket World Cup and the World Test Championship final. Pat Cummins led the team to bat first, setting a positive tone for the series opener. Cameron Green’s decision to share his journey adds a personal touch to his cricketing career, inspiring others and fostering awareness about chronic kidney disease.
