Australia’s left-hand batter David Warner, with his scintillating ton against South Africa during the second ODI, has surpassed India’s great Sachin Tendulkar’s record of centuries as an opener. David Warner, who opens for Australia in all three formats of cricket, is a class batter, and with his century against South Africa, he took his century count in international cricket as an opener for his team to 46, which is the highest ever by any opening batter. Sachin Tendulkar previously held the record for the most number of centuries in international cricket as an opener. The legend scored 45 centuries batting as an opener, and overall he scored 100 centuries in international cricket in his career.

Sachin Tendulkar batted as an opener as well as at number 4 for India in test cricket. Warner scored his 20th ODI century and 46th overall as an opener. He reached this milestone after his 343rd international match. He took 428 innings to cross the record of Sachin Tendulkar with his 46th century. David Warner is now on the elite list of players who have scored more than 40 centuries while batting as an opener for their team. In the top 5 in this list, the third number is that of Universe Boss Chris Gayle, who scored 42 centuries in his international career as an opener, and down to him is Sri Lankan great Sanath Jayasuriya with 41. On the fifth, there is another Australian left-handed opener, Matthew Hayden, who scored 40 centuries as an opener.

Warner scored 106 runs off 93 balls during the match, and Marnus Labuschagne was another player who shined against South Africa in the second ODI; he also scored his century and scored 124 off 99 balls. Thanks to these two batters, Australia put in a humungous total of 392 runs for 8 wickets. South Africa, chasing the target of 393 runs, were all out for 269 runs.
