India’s one of the oldest domestic cricket tournaments, the Duleep Trophy, has served as a platform for several Indian cricket stars who made it to the Indian men’s senior team with their performance in the domestic tournament. Since the inauguration of the Duleep Trophy in 1961-62 by the apex governing body of cricket in India BCCI, the teams were divided into different geographical zones(North, South, East, West, Central). Duleep Trophy was named after former Indin cricketer Duleep Singh, who represented British India in the 1930s and was famous for his elegant batting style.
In 2024, BCCI made certain changes in the team structure. This year, instead of dividing teams into different zones, they named the teams India A, India B, India C, and India D. The players representing the mentioned teams are selected by the BCCI’s senior selecting committee.
