HUR vs THU: Hobart Hurricanes defeated Sydney Thunder in the match 29th of the BBL to remain at the top of the points table.
Hurricanes, after winning the toss, chose to bowl first; newly inducted Sam Konstas and skipper David Warner started the innings for Sydney Sixers, but Hurricanes’ bowler Riley Meredith didn’t take much time to dismiss the youngster and picked his wicket in the 4th over of the powerplay. Matthew Gilkes tried scoring runs but could only get to 9 runs. David Warner was holding his end but wasn’t getting any support from the other, and wickets kept falling. At the end of 20 overs, Sydney Thunder put 164 runs on the board, with David Warner remaining not out on 88 runs.
Chasing the target of 165, Hurricanes started with Mitchell Owen and Matthew Wade, and both batters were out there for a show to put and lightened the arena with the sixes, but George Garton, after being hit for two sixes, made a comeback and picked up the wicket, of Matthew Wade. In the next over, Owen was dismissed as the Hurricanes lost two wickets with a score of 32. Nikhil Chaudhary and Charlie Wakim partnered to take the score to 59, but Tom Andrews dismissed the latter to make Tim David come early in the match, and that’s where the game changed as David started playing in his style and started taking on every bowler and finished the match with 19 balls to spare scoring 68 runs off 38 balls.
