ICC took action against West Indies player Devon Thomas for match fixing

The International Cricket Council, the supreme governing body of the cricket has recently taken action against west Indies batter Devon Thomas for match fixing, he is now provisionally banned by ICC from playing matches. ICC gave its decision on Tuesday after finding his involvement in match fixing, ICC has filed seven charges against the west-Indian four among them are related to Lanka Premier League(T20 League), two among the rest of the three charges are of Caribbean Premier League and one is of the T10 cricket league, happened in UAE in 2021.

He has been charged according to the ICC’s anti-corruption code which include allegations of attempting to fix the outcome of the matches and tampering the evidences against him, the Right-handed west Indian batter has 14 days to give his response to the charges. He is the part of the west Indies team for the upcoming ODI series against UAE in Dubai. He played only one match in the LPL in 2021 while playing for Kandy Warriors

The two charges on Devon Thomas from Caribbean Premier league are of 1) failing to disclose and approach and the second one is failing to report the “receipt of any gift, payment, hospitality, or benefit that he knew or should have known was made in order to procure a breach of the CPL code, or could jeopardize the reputation of the player or the league for which he is playing.

Devon Thomas has so far featured in 21 ODIs and 12 T20Is while playing for West Indies, he had his international cricket debut in 2009 and played his only test match against Australia in Adelaide in last year December 2022 it was a day-night test match.

“The International Cricket Council (ICC), on behalf of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), has charged West Indies player Devon Thomas with seven counts under their anti-corruption codes.”
