ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Semi-Finals: Threat Of Rain Washouts And The Rules To Chose A Winner

Rain interruptions can lead to the abandonment of the semi-final matches, and here are the solutions to decide the winner if rain plays spoilsport.

As the excitement to see the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 is growing, so does the anxiety of the teams who are going to battle each other in the knockout stage to book their spot in the finals of the tournament, besides the joy and excitement there is a looming threat on the knockout games. That threat is Rain-Showers, which have already led to the abandonment of a few games in this tournament where both teams got one point each if the match couldn’t be continued, but what if rainfall interrupts the knockout game? Giving points to each team won’t work, so what do ICC rules state for saving the match?

What If the India vs England Match Is Washed Out Or Interrupted By Rain?

If the India vs England match gets interrupted by rain for some time, then the DLS method will be used to truncate the overs or the scores, but if rain leads to the abandonment of the game, then India will qualify for the finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 as they were unbeaten in the Super-8 matches. There will be no reserve day for the semi-final 2 between India and England. However, a reserve day is there for the Semi-final 1, which will be played against Afghanistan and South Africa.

Why There Is No Reserve Day For India vs England Semi-final?

There is no official statement from the ICC regarding the issue of a Reserve day for semi-final 2, but 250 minutes of extra time will be provided to reach the conclusion of the match if rain interrupts the game. The point to note here is that the entire 250 minutes will come into play if rain plays a role, and the time should be utilized on the same day.
