India’s U-19 men’s team suffered a defeat in the second Youth ODI against England’s U-19 team. In the first ODI, India registered a comfortable victory over England by six wickets. In the 1st ODI, Team Blue faced a loss in the next in a last-over thriller. The five-match series is now leveled 1-1, and the next match is scheduled to be played at County Ground, Northampton on 2nd July.
India, batting first, didn’t get the start they wanted as the skipper, Ayush Mhatre, got out without scoring a run and was bowled by Alex French. The wicket didn’t affect Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who continued with his aggressive play and built a partnership with Vihaan Malhotra. The two batted well and put runs on the scoreboard. Jack Home picked up the wickets of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Vihaan Malhotra, who missed his fifty by just one run. Contribution came from the batters afterward as Rahul Kumar and Kanishk Chouhan scored 40+ runs for their team, which dragged India to a score of 290 runs before getting bowled out in 49 Overs.
Chasing the target of 291 runs, England also didn’t get a good start as the top order batters BJ Dawkins and Isaaza Mohammed got out early in the chase. Indian bowlers were doing well and sent the top order batters back to the pavilion. But it was England’s skipper Thomas Rew who spoiled the Indian bowlers’ party and started scoring runs for his team. Although he didn’t receive support from the other end, he didn’t stop and continued to put pressure on the Indian bowlers. He got out after scoring 131 runs for his team as India tried to make a comeback, but Sebastian Morgan didn’t let that happen, scoring crucial runs for his team, which ultimately led to England winning the match by 1 wicket with 3 balls left.
