After finishing Day 4 of the first test on 21/0, England got a great start on the final day as openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett played the game they were sent to play. Both batters scored their fifties and put on a partnership of 188 runs for the first wicket. Ben Duckett scored his century, and India’s sloppy fielding efforts gave the openers enough chances to carry on. Zak Crawley was dismissed after scoring 65 runs for his team, but the left-handed batter continued scoring runs from his end. First innings centurion Ollie Pope couldn’t score more than 8 runs this time and got beaten by an inswinger delivery bowled by Prasidh Krishna.

Ben Duckett got caught on the score of 149 runs, and then Shardul Thakur picked up the wicket of Harry Brook to ignite the hopes in the Indian dug-out, but soon England’s skipper Ben Stokes and right-handed batter Joe Root diminished all hopes of the Indian team to make a comeback. Though Ben Stokes got out after scoring 33 runs, it didn’t take much time for Joe Root and Jamie Smith to win, as the latter finished the match with a six. Ben Duckett was named Player of the Match for his match-winning innings.

After taking a fifer in the first innings of the match, Jasprit Bumrah didn’t get any wickets in the 2nd innings, and that was the main reason why India wasn’t able to stop England’s batters from getting the win. England’s aggressive play helped them get the victory in the first test match as they lead the series by 1-0. The next test match is scheduled to be played at Edgbaston from 2nd July, and Ben Stokes and Co. will try to increase the lead. On the other hand, India will try to level the series.
