The final day of the 2nd test where India needed seven wickets to register a historic victory over England at Edgbaston started with Prasidh Krishna getting the ball in his hand as he delivered the 19th over then in the next over, Akashdeep maintaining his bowling rhythm on the Day 5 got the wicket of Ollie Pope in his first over of the final day. The bounce surprised Ollie Pope as the ball found its way to the stumps, and then he dismissed Harry Brook as England lost two more wickets to get down to 5 wickets.

England’s skipper Ben Stokes and wicket-keeper batter Jamie Smith took the innings forward and gave the fight to put runs on the scoreboard. Indian bowlers were struggling to take wickets, then came Washington Sundar, who broke the partnership between Stokes and Jamie Smith by taking the wicket of England’s skipper just before the break. Indian spinners were getting the turn from the pitch, and considering that, Shubman Gill continued the spin-attack but didn’t get the wickets.

The bowling attack changed as pacers started bowling again, and Prasidh Krishna dismissed Chris Woakes to claim his first wicket of the test match. Jamie Smith was scoring runs from his end. It was a fielding and bowling set-up that worked for India as Akashdeep bowled bouncers after bouncers, and one miss-hit by Jamie Smith landed into the hands of Washington Sundar, who took a catch at deep backward square leg. Akashdeep completed his fifer and then Mohammed Siraj took a brilliant catch to dismiss Josh Tongue. India was one wicket away from glory, and Akashdeep drove the final nail in the coffin by picking up the wicket of Brydon Carse.

Akashdeep picked up 10 wickets in the 2nd test match as India beat England for the first time at Edgbaston. Shubman Gill was named Player of the Match.
