India vs New Zealand World Cup 2023 Highlights

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, after winning the toss, decided to bowl first at the HPCA stadium in Dharamshala. New Zealand’s start to the innings was not good as the openers failed to provide the start New Zealand was looking for. Devon Conway got out on a duck, and then Will Young was dismissed by Mohammed Shami. The Indian bowling attack was roaring, but Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell read the conditions properly and batted according to them, plus India dropped some catches in between that gave them chances to hit the bowlers afterwards. Daryl Mitchell went on to hit his first century in the 2023 World Cup, where Rachin Ravindra scored 75 runs before getting out. Indian bowlers made a comeback in the death overs, with Mohammed Shami picking up five wickets. New Zealand finished with 273/10 in 50 overs.

Indian opening while chasing the target of 274 runs was decent, as skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill unsettled the New Zealand bowlers and did a 71-run partnership for the first wicket, then chase master Virat Kohli came to the strike and continued the attack from one end, where wickets kept falling from the other end, but the partnership between Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja did take India home, though Virat Kohli got out on 95. He made sure that his team could easily reach the target. India won the match by 4 wickets with 12 balls to spare.

Indian bowler Mohammed Shami was named player of the match for his exceptional bowling performance, he took 5 wickets against New Zealand during the match.

“The first game helped get that confidence. It’s not too hard (waiting by the sidelines) if your team is doing well. They are your teammates and if they are doing well then you should be supporting them. If it’s in the team’s interest, I’m okay with it. The wickets are important because the top two teams of the World Cup were playing.
