India vs South Africa 1st ODI Highlights: India, after leveling the three-match T20I series by 1-1 against “The Proteas,” faced the host in the first ODI at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. This time, the Indian team was captained by wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul. During the T20I series, Suryakumar Yadav led the Indian team, but he wasn’t part of the playing XI this time. Under the captaincy of KL Rahul, India outclassed South Africa and won the first ODI by 8 wickets, reaching the target of 117 runs in just 16.4 overs.

South Africa’s skipper, Aiden Markram, after winning the toss, chose to bat first, and the decision to bat first didn’t turn out in his team’s favor as the Indian bowlers didn’t let any Proteas batter settle on the field. Arshdeep Singh was on fire and dismissed Reeza Hendricks on a duck; in the next ball, he dismissed Rassie van der Dussen. South Africa was on the backfoot after losing two back-to-back wickets, but Tony de Zorzi and Aiden Markram somehow kept the Indian bowlers quiet for some time. Arshdeep didn’t let their innings go too far and got the wicket of Tony de Zorzi. After that, Avesh Khan started his bowling spell and finished with four wickets. Arshdeep Singh took a fifer as India bowled out South Africa for 116 runs in 27.3 overs.
India, while chasing the target of 117 runs, opened with Sai Sudarshan, who was making his international debut, and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Sai Sudarshan’s first international run came in the form of a boundary. The young Indian left-handed batter went on to score his first international fifty in his debut match and remained not out. Shreyas Iyer also scored a fifty, as South Africa’s bowlers only took two wickets in the match. India won the first ODI of the three by eight wickets.
