CSK vs SRH: Chennai Super Kings, in the 46th match of the IPL 2024, took revenge for the previous loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad by defeating the latter at MA Chidambaram Stadium by 78 runs. CSK, after getting two back-to-back losses against LSG, bounced back to win the match at their home, and with that victory, they jumped to the third spot of the points table behind KKR with five wins.

SRH invited the home team to bat first, and CSK started with the opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ajinkya Rahane. Despite losing Rahane earlier in the match, Ruturaj Gaikwad took charge and started hitting the shots all over the park. He was accompanied by Daryl Mitchell, who also scored his first fifty of the IPL. The duo had a remarkable partnership of 115 runs before Daryl Mitchell got dismissed. Later, Shivam Dube played like “he plays” till the end of 20 overs and scored 39 runs off 20 balls to take his team’s score to 212/3 in 20 overs.

SRH started the chase, and its openers went all out on CSK’s bowlers from the first delivery, but it was the field set-up and brilliant bowling by the CSK’s bowlers that worked against SRH’s opening batters as SRH lost three wickets within powerplay. There was nothing significant happened down the order as CSK’s bowlers were all over the opposition and choked them in the middle overs, which built the pressure on the SRH, and eventually, CSK won the match by 78 runs, bowling out SRH on the score of 134 runs, in 18.5 overs.

“Feeling pretty good. It’s really tough to play in such wet conditions and to win by 78 runs was a very clinical performance. Great win for us. There conditions are too hot and humid. Last game I was out fielding for 20 overs and 19 overs today. I was never even thinking about the hundred. I was just trying to make sure we get to 220 or whatever extra runs possible. Even in the last game I wasn’t thinking about the hundred. I was upset I missed a few shots. At the innings break I thought it would cost us. But in the end it worked out. Last game we made some errors, some loose balls here and there, not really up to the mark in the field. Today we came up with plans, stuck to them and we were excellent in the field.
Ruturaj Gaikwad said post-match

“We thought chasing was our best chance to win but unfortunately it didn’t come off tonight. I thought they obviously batted well but with out batting lineup, wicket was playing pretty well, so I thought we had a good chance. I think we are pretty happy with how the batting lineup is going. Nothing went right for us today but everyone in that lineup has won a game for us at some point this season. It’s definitely dewy now, but it was pretty dewy in the first innings as well. It’s only a couple of games [lost], so we’ll look to bounce back quickly.”
